UPDATE: Services are being diverted between Cheltenham Spa and Bristol Temple Meads, as the deer was hit and caused a fault on a train which cannot be rectified.

Freight train 6L21 has lost its air at Newbury, closing the up line. To allow main line services to divert via Melksham, the 17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central and 19:32 Westbury to Cheltenham Spa services were both diverted via Bathampton instead of running via Melksham.
The 20:08 Swindon to Westbury service will also divert via Bathampton.

No train service at Melksham between the departure of the delayed 18:48 service to Swindon and the arrival of the 07:49 service tomorrow morning. The single track line and limited signalling sections again constraining capacity when something goes awry on the Newbury route.

Thank you for logging - three cancellations as far as Melksham is concerned.

Co-incidentally, I was at Melksham Station for the first three trains this morning (and very wet it was at 06:30!) - used by a total 63 passengers to or from Melksham.  Logged as an ongoing reminder that - in spite of the unreliability that's been thrown at us this year - the service is now a vital one to many.

Route affected

Trains between Penzance / Plymouth / Paignton / Exeter St Davids / Taunton / Westbury / Bedwyn / Newbury and Reading / London Paddington

Description

A broken down freight train at Newbury is causing delays of up to 60 minutes, cancellations and alterations to trains between Westbury and Reading.

Some High Speed trains will be diverted between Westbury and Reading via Melksham.

We anticipate disruption will continue until 22:00.

Alternative travel advice:

Road transport is in operation between Bedwyn and Newbury to help you with your journey.

... but same old problem.

Only cancellation across the whole patch too ... that's familiar, but noting that it was only flagged up at 07:30 so it could be last minute staff sickness.
