2M03 just left Westbury at 07:38 for Swindon. SWR» (South Western Railway - about) 158 unit. Effectively in the path of the 07:33 service. Broken down train at Bradford on Avon causing major problems with crew and stock displaced.

Further to the above. 5C03 has failed, which is the unit for the 1B04 06:45 Frome to Cardiff. 1F01 is trapped behind and assisting the failed train from the rear. 1F01 also conveys the units for the 2O66 06:54 Westbury to Weymouth and the 2E17 07:23 Warminster to Great Malvern. On top of this, several incoming crews for workings from Westbury are trapped because of the failure.

In effect, the 07:04 cancelled and the 07:33 running as 2 cars.

Cancellations to services between Bath Spa and Westbury
Due to a broken down train between Bath Spa and Westbury the line towards Westbury is blocked.
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 40 minutes. Disruption is expected until 08:15 05/01.

Noting that the 08:49 from Swindon to Westbury which was down from 2 cars to 1 car is now cancelled (down to zero cars!).  Not sure how that fits in with "disruption until 08:15" - looks to me like "disruption until 09:42"  Undecided

With only one unit at Swindon and departures required for both Cheltenham Spa and Westbury, it's the Cheltenham Spa service that's the winner.   I can understand why, seeing as the 07:36 Paddington to Cheltenham Spa - which would have been the next Swindon to Cheltenham Spa service (08:36 ex SWI» (Swindon - next trains)) - is also cancelled.

Just to summarise (for when we look back, 5th January)

07:33 Westbury to Swindon - cancelled (but 07:04 delayed to run in its place, so in effect 07:04 cancelled)
08:49 Swindon to Westbury due 09:42 - cancelled. "This is due to a broken down train."

Noting that the broken down train was actually off the TransWilts - it was at Bradford-on-Avon

153380 for the 2M06 09:48 Westbury to Swindon and 2M07 10:47 Swindon to Westbury. If it stays on the diagram it should then form the 2M10 12:20 Westbury to Swindon and 2M11 13:29 Swindon to Westbury. The good news is that 158766 should be on the rest of the Westbury to Swindon circuits.

The guard for the 07:04 Cheltenham service was stuck on the broken down Portsmouth service, hence the knock-on effect on the TransWilts.

Excellent news for the afternoon ... the 15:18 and 17:36 off Swindon are the two trains that have been really desperate for extension.   The 07:33 is also important and that was right for the wrong reason this morning ... that 09:48 that's one car is the 4th run in terms of busyness of the six round trips (12 individual runs) that have been getting so busy to put people off, but that one's more leisure traffic so seasonal and this week is l-o-w season!

And also the outward working.

20:08 Portsmouth Harbour to Swindon due 22:41 will be terminated at Westbury.
It will no longer call at Trowbridge, Chippenham and Swindon.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Delighted that this thread has been quiet for a couple of days  Grin

I was at the station when the 11:13 to Westbury called this morning (Wednesday, mid January, cool but nice weather). Happy to see 15 get on and 5 get off what I expect to be one of the quieter trains of the day.  Mix of regular users, and newcomers.   Newcomers seem to very commonly be happy to have help / advise in using the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) or being assured they can buy with cash on the train.

08:49 Swindon to Westbury due 09:42
08:49 Swindon to Westbury due 09:42 will be diverted between Chippenham and Trowbridge.
It will no longer call at Melksham.
This is due to a fault with the signalling system.

However - signalling system fixed and ran via Melksham according to a later update.    Fingers crossed it didn't turn too many people off ...

It's currently 'sandwiched'  between 1C26 and 1C27. Looks like 1C27 is about to reverse towards Swindon.

Looks like 1C27 reversed to RWB and going through on the less flooded up line!
