...although I wonder if the 21:07 from Bath was advertised as "Weymouth" as this was known to be terminating at Westbury due to crew shortage.

Here is the advise offered ...

Quote
20:06 Swindon to Westbury due 20:49
20:06 Swindon to Westbury due 20:49 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.
Additional Information
Customers at Swindon and Chippenham travelling to Trowbridge or Westbury should travel on 20:32 Weston-super-Mare service from Swindon (20:46 from Chippenham) and change at Bath Spa for the 21:07 service towards Weymouth which calls at Trowbridge (21:28) and Westbury (21:36).

Customers travelling to Melksham should change at Chippenham and speak to station staff.

Customers at Melksham will be provided road transport from the station car park.

And that is hugely better / more thorough than information / advise I've seen before - thank you whoever added it
Agreed it is helpful that when GWR (Great Western Railway) cancel a service they give the affected passengers as much help and advice possible. Sadly this doesn’t happen enough from what’s seen on Journey Check.

1332 Westbury to Swindon and return were re-instated

However ... business turned away and lost.    I have received some irate messages this morning - about the unreliability of the service with so many cancellations, and about seeing the train cancelled, making their way to Chippenham (hassle, cost) because National Rail said it was cancelled ... just to find it was running!

I don't think the re-instated service will show up in the various measures as anything but running, will it?

Cancelling should be added to the statistics whatever actually happens.

Passengers should also be compensated if their train is cancelled, but subsequently runs after they've made alternative plans.

Purely for the record - 2 cars not 3 on the 07:33 Westbury to Swindon and the 08:49 (should be 08:36) back.  As a single carriage train just two months ago, this was one of the trains that was holding back growth because more people couldn't fit on it.  However, two is plenty ( at the moment  Grin ) .

Last night (logged elsewhere) the 17:36 was reported as "1 carriage not 3" and that is serious - busiest train of the day. "At least it ran".  Not sure if it really was a 153, or something else with a carriage out of use.

15:18 Swindon to Westbury due 16:01

15:18 Swindon to Westbury due 16:01 will be cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

The up train from Frome also cancelled from Westbury to Swindon.

Real time trains says "This service was cancelled between Westbury and Swindon due to a problem with the train" which is not quite the same as saying "a fault on this train", and is more accurate.

19:32 ex Westbury also lost, and I'm pretty sure the 18:32 was too.   18:48 ex Swindon took a long time. (Due 19:30 but arrives 21:06 at Westbury, having sat for 90 minutes in the platform at Trowbridge.)
