19:41 Westbury to Cheltenham Spa due 21:28
19:41 Westbury to Cheltenham Spa due 21:28 will be terminated at Gloucester.
It will no longer call at Kemble, Stroud, Stonehouse and Cheltenham Spa.
It has been delayed at Westbury and is now 59 minutes late.
This is due to a fault on this train.

Well at least it's running ... I expect quite a lot of that rather busy 166 that went down this morning will have come back up from Weymouth and changed onto this!

With a limited service over the next few weeks starting today due to the latest Newbury works, it is not a good start to have the busiest evening service cancelled.  (I do agree that is stating the obvious but it is so frustrating.)

17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central due 20:44
17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central due 20:44 will be started from Salisbury.
It will no longer call at Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester, Stonehouse, Stroud, Kemble, Swindon, Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge, Westbury, Dilton Marsh and Warminster.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.

Proper service 18 trains per day.  Scheduled reduced to 7 trains due to engineering. Can't even find enough trains in working order to run them ... last southbound train today, 08:28 from Swindon.   Northbound gap 07:21 to 19:32.

Given that there are no trains running to Oxford and Newbury shouldn't there be more than enough trains for everybody else to have a reliable service?

06:47 Penzance to London Paddington due 13:00
06:47 Penzance to London Paddington due 13:00 will be diverted between Taunton and Reading.
It will no longer call at Westbury but will call additionally at Bristol Temple Meads.
This is due to a problem currently under investigation.

OK ... it wasn't / isn't due to stop at Swindon (pity), so questionable as to whether this is a "TransWilts Cancellation" to be logged.  But what on earth could they be investigating 6 hours ahead (due Westbury 11:05) that calls for a diversion via Bristol?

Have you asked GWR (Great Western Railway)? As you know the reason given for delays/cancellations/alterations etc often has very little to do with reality.

Asking more out of interest in case anyone might know.  Further though suggests it might be a crew issue - either a need to swap over crew on the way at Bristol (hence the stop) or a route knowledge issue.

For the engineering works, we requested GWR to help local traffic by stopping a couple of the west country expresses that run via the TransWilts and have 'allowances' built into their schedules.  Very selective and careful requests, but "not possible" for reasons I'm not totally clear on.   At least that denial means we don't have a "real" cancellation today!

Could be path is required for an engineering train involved with Oxford works, just a thought.

Its "not possible" until GWR "need to", but that is another story.
