That is typically a very quiet train indeed, as it runs just 10 minutes behind the Portsmouth; it does carry a few more passengers back from Warminster at 17:28, as in that direction it splits the hour (17:03 and 18:01 calls on Portsmouth - Cardiff)

17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central due 20:44
17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central due 20:44 will no longer call at Melksham.
It has been delayed at Gloucester and is now 17 minutes late.
This is due to train crew being delayed.

Note for any readers who deal with train regulation.  We would much have trains 15 to 20 minutes late than not at all, even if the delay knocks on to our end of service!

Problem is being that late it would hold up those very important express trains which are using “our” single line.

So that's the quietest segment of the service ...

Eh?  The only signalling fault I was aware of earlier today was on the North Cotswold Line.   Has someone got "Melksham" and "Moreton" mixed up??

Problems at North Somerset junction for a while.  Several services diverted from Swindon to Temple Meads via Hullavington.

Hmmm ... OK. But it does seem odd that long distance diversions earlier on are all cleared now (if I look at Journey Check) - yet somehow there's a knock-on to the TransWilts, who's trains don't even run over North Somerset Junction!

I appreciate that we've got engineering works going on at Newbury at the moment, and it's far more of an operational nuisance than normal to run the 17:36.   Sad to see that the nuisance factor seems to correlate with the reliability factor.
