2M17 2008 Swindon - Westbury (GW (Great Western)) seems to have been cancelled at Chippenham this evening.

A broken down train at Trowbridge trapping a freight train on the Melksham line.

It sat at the down platform at Chippenham for some considerable time ... to the extent that the following HST (High Speed Train) to Bristol (or might have been an IET (Intercity Express Train)) ran wrong line from Royal Wootton Bassett, delaying the next up train out at Thingley ...

I suspect that the freight failed blocking Bradford as it came off the single line.   Fun evening!

Freight took three hours from Chippenham to Trowbridge ...  and held up some others

The original cause of the problem was the 18:30 Cardiff to Portsmouth. That came to a stand near Trowbridge and eventually had to be rescued by another Pompey unit after passengers from both trains had been evacuated.

11:00 Weymouth to Swindon due 13:20 will be terminated at Westbury.
It will no longer call at Trowbridge, Melksham, Chippenham and Swindon.
It has been delayed at Weymouth and is now 60 minutes late.
This is due to a tree blocking the railway earlier today.

A power car problem at Theale. Melksham service pulled (again) to free up paths for diverted West of England services. Be interesting to see if any services did actually divert via Melksham.

Astonishing ...

Other blue lines on the CoffeeShop map today indicate lack of toliets on the train - not a thick wadge of cancellations, thank goodness!

1Z40 07:32 Newquay to Paddington was held outside Westbury for a while before diverted through Melksham.  Would have passed through around 12:15.

1A79 06:47 Penzance to Paddington was held at Newbury before going booked route around an hour late.

1C30 12:03 Paddington to Penzance was held at Reading before going booked route and calling addtionally at Theale.  Left Reading 35 late but was 54 late at Exeter and reached Penzance (magically) a minute short of an hour late.

Another one that nearly slipped through the net: The 17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central service was cancelled at Swindon and restarted from Westbury because of no available guard.
