It will no longer call at Stonehouse, Stroud, Kemble, Swindon, Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge, Westbury, Dilton Marsh, Warminster, Salisbury, Romsey and Southampton Central.
This is due to a member of on-train staff being taken ill.

So there's a single train at 08:22 from Westbury to Swindon then nothing to 15:06
First train of the day Swindon to Westbury at 15:22

"This is due to the train conductor being taken ill."

Things like this happen. But they happen to GWR (Great Western Railway) far far far too often.  I used to run a 24 business operation, and staff occasionally called in sick or even had to be sent home.   And we had contingency plans in place so that we would not let our customers down - a qualified stand in ... .  You would think that GWR could do the same considering they are running over a thousand services a day, wouldn't you?

Today is day one of two of the Melksham Food and River Festival, with crowds expected in the King George V Park that's a ten minute walk from the station.

Swindon Town at home this afternoon too.

As there is no alternative advise on JourneyCheck, I have asked on Twitter:

"@GWRHelp - what advise for people travelling to our food and river festival in Melksham today?"

"@GWRHelp - what advise for Swindon Town fans from Trowbridge and Melksham travelling to the home game today?"

I can see there's cancellations due to crew being ill. There will be staff at Swindon so passengers will have to go to the station as normal and speak to staff upon arrival. They will be best placed to look into alternatives and assist. Nat

Get a taxi, send the bill to GWR (Great Western Railway) quoting the relevant legislation.

If they are travelling from Melksham to Swindon then the 0838 ran and the service at 1148 is also expected to run. One after that will be at 1348 and that's also expected to run. There is a Customer Help Point at Melksham if help is needed.

Looks like two services now re-instated.

Summarising ... two round trips re-instanted as I write

First Westbury to Swindon services at 08:22 and 11:32 this morning (07:32 and 09:32 lost)
First Swindon to Westbury service at 12:36 (08:36 and 10:36 lost).

Sales and negotiating technique manual, chapter one:

"If you have bad news, overplay it at first ... then people will be grateful when you switch it to less bad news"

"If you need to buy a little time to sort things out, play dumb and answer something you weren't asked"

I have no evidence to support (or to not support) whether these techniques were wilfully employed ...
