Graham do you think network rail will redouble the lines and improve the route through Melksham, or do you think they are waiting for Melksham,s council tax payers to foot the bill?.

Graham do you think network rail will redouble the lines and improve the route through Melksham, or do you think they are waiting for Melksham,s council tax payers to foot the bill?.

There's not a simple choice one way or the other.  Many parties and many funding sources come together for improvements.   Melksham's councils are certainly prepared to put some money where their mouth is in support of developing public transport and improvements; not only the significant and documented match funding for the Melksham Station Hub, but also considerable other work such as on bus shelters which is also ongoing and in the public record of the Town Council, and indirectly in financial support for developing the neighbourhood plan, which makes a point of being public and sustainable / green transport friendly.

The line as a whole passes though Melksham and the majority of traffic is not to or from the town and funding of major resource reliability and capacity are beyond the town's resources and it would not be reasonable to expect the local council tax payers to stump up.   Just as the council tax payers of Dawlish are not expected to pay for all the work on the sea wall there.   A variety of other wider funders are involved.

... sadly a complete lack of customer information.

I happened to be down at Melksham Station (change of community poster) and the train said "delayed" on the board ... and a few minutes later just disappeared.  No advise given .. a gentleman who had to get back to Swindon asked "what do I do now ...." .... system certainly wasn't telling him ...

What do you make of this one.

11:10 Weymouth to Gloucester due 14:31

Facilities on the 11:10 Weymouth to Gloucester due 14:31.

Toilet facilities are not available at both ends.
This is due to a fault on this train.

Additional Information
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause

How can a fault on the train affect the provision of toilet facilities at Weymouth and Gloucester and of course Westbury where the unit returns to after this duty.

Could have been even worse! The 16:32 from Westbury to Swindon and 17:36 from Swindon back to Westbury were also showing as cancelled, but have now been reinstated.

No further advice for intending travellers on these trains again.....
