The problems on Friday above were mostly hangovers from the storms/flooding/lightning strikes on Thursday night. A lot of overnighting stock in wrong positions on Friday morning

2W10 0514 Oxford to Evesham
This service was cancelled between Evesham and Worcester Foregate Street due to an unknown problem (TO).

19 mins late at Evesham on 06/06/2018 and terminated

returned to Oxford empty cars 5E92

Quote
2E92 0811 Oxford to Didcot Parkway
This service was cancelled between Worcester Foregate Street and Oxford due to a problem with the train (M8).

Who'd be a commuter on this line these days?  Or indeed, who'd bother with the train at all, if you need to be somewhere at a certain time of day?

Can anyone translate the two-letter codes at the end of the reasons (TO & MB)? My understanding is that TO is usually some kind of operator error, for example?

I hope at least one toilet stop was allowed on those trains above without toilets!!

The delay cause codes are listed in the tables in section 5 of "Delay Attribution Principles and Rules".

For the more general ones, the words displayed with them convey the definition pretty well. Some are more specific, though. The tables make the attribution to one (or more) organisation explicit in most cases, or else say how this is to be decided.

The list of first letters, indicating classes of causes by responsibility, is:
Quote
A - FREIGHT TERMINAL OPERATING CAUSES
D – HOLDING CODES
F - FREIGHT OPERATING CAUSES
I - INFRASTRUCTURE CAUSES
J - FURTHER INFRASTRUCTURE CAUSES
M - MECHANICAL OR FLEET ENGINEER CAUSES
N –OTHER MECHANICAL OR FLEET ENGINEER CAUSES
O - NETWORK RAIL OPERATING CAUSES
P - PLANNED OR EXCLUDED DELAYS OR CANCELLATIONS
Q - NETWORK RAIL NON-OPERATING CAUSES
R - STATION OPERATING CAUSES
T - PASSENGER OPERATING CAUSES
V – EXTERNAL EVENTS – TOC RESPONSIBILITY
X - EXTERNAL EVENTS - NETWORK RAIL
Y - REACTIONARY DELAYS
Z - UNEXPLAINED DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS

MB is: Electric loco failure, defect, attention. [ELEC LOCO]
TO is: Time lost en-route believed to be Operator cause and information required from Operator (Ops Responsibility)  [LIR UNEX]

I presume the codes are assigned to the *actual* cause of delay, so in 2E92, 'electric loco' refers to the cause of 2E92s non appearance? Coz 2E92 itself is bvery unlikely to have an electric loco attached!

2E92 wasn't coded MB, it was M8 - Other delays associated with technical faults above the solebar.
Examples are given as:
Air conditioning
Cab heaters
Internal lighting
VCB
Toilets
Window faults (excl. those broken by external causes)
Failed passenger facilities e.g. broken seating

An old favourite rears its head again today:

Quote
15:50 London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh due 17:26 was terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham and Moreton-in-Marsh.
This is due to train crew being delayed.

Last Updated:06/06/2018 17:01

And, as so often, a very late call.

By my reckoning that's the 23rd time this year this service has not run on to Moreton-in-Marsh - almost once a week.

And another pair:
Quote
15:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 17:58 will be terminated at Worcester Shrub Hill.
It will no longer call at Worcester Foregate Street, Malvern Link and Great Malvern.
It has been delayed between London Paddington and Oxford and is now 16 minutes late.
This is due to train crew being delayed.
Last Updated:06/06/2018 17:47

Same applies to the 18:29 Great Malvern - Paddington.

Also a late call.

I think Chiltern Trains should take over the running of the Oxford to Hereford service ! I do not think GWR want it why would you let things get so bad??

Isn't the implication of such a move that it would be that it was just that - an Oxford to Hereford Service - without any Paddington to Hereford service?
