Facilities on the 16:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 19:26.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 5. First class not available. Catering is not available. There are no reservations on this service. Toilet facilities are reduced.

Facilities on the 19:42 Great Malvern to London Paddington due 22:31.

The GWR (Great Western Railway) crystal ball has a new capability - it can predict that the reduced toilet facilities will fail at Great Malvern about 19:30.

I was on this train yesterday - and it was rammed from Reading to about Charlbury. I was interested to see that the 5 passengers alighting at Ascott convened on the platform for what appeared to be an impromtu meeting - presumably about the state of the "service".

Accepting the early evening Cotswold Line service might be disrupted due to knock on effects of this lunchtime's points failure between Reading and Didcot, an old favourite is back:

Quote
16:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 19:26 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

and ditto the return 19:42 from Great Malvern.

....the song remains the same.....

Songs have a chorus ... which repeats and gives familiarity.   Arguably more accepted / acceptable than cancelling different trains (but the same number) in what appears to be an almost random way.  One of our TransWilts customers was saying to me today that if they're having trouble providing enough staff to run trains, why not have specific services that are actually declared as "first to go"?  Then the unfortunate regulars on tho services at least know to have backup plans.

For the 16:22 regulars - take heart.  The song and chorus do change in time.  It used to be the 07:15 Paddington to Cardiff that was top of the hit parade ...

Additional Information

This service has been reinstated with a different type of train to the planned Intercity Express Train, owing to the change in the type of train forming this service we are unable to honour seat reservations that customers may have made for this journey.

The 08:00 Padd'n - Great Malvern was cancelled betweeen Oxford and Shrub Hill due to (according to RTT» (Real Time Trains - website)) a planning error.

And today's bigger problem is
Quote
Due to a broken down train between Oxford and Worcester Shrub Hill the line towards Worcester Shrub Hill is blocked.
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 16:00 21/01.

This has resulted in the cancellation between Oxford and Hereford of
  • 10:42 Padd'n - Hereford
  • 12:42 Padd'n - Hereford
  • 14:32 Hereford - Padd'n
  • 16:34 Hereford - Padd'n

Earlier the 06:52 Paddington to Great Malvern and return were cancelled. Now we have:

Quote
14:21 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 16:44 has been cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

and the 17:26 return.

Were these supposed to be IETs (Intercity Express Train)?

However, better news considering the extra passengers it needs to carry:

Quote
15:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 17:58

Facilities on the 15:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 17:58.
Will be formed of 8 coaches instead of 5.

......and the return run too (naturally)

15:52 London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh due 17:26 will be cancelled.

This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

07:10 Moreton-In-Marsh to London Paddington due 08:51

Facilities on the 07:10 Moreton-in-Marsh to London Paddington due 08:51.
This is due to a broken down train earlier today.
Will be formed of 3 coaches instead of 6 from Reading.

Especially as there’s now a tree on the line at Ascott.
