Not confirmed yet but the 15:52 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):MIM is booked as an HST (High Speed Train) today and, according to GWR (Great Western Railway)'s social media team, "it's likely that this won't go beyond Oxford today".

How does my daughter's friend stand as to compensation for the "service" she didn't receive?

Compensation under the GWR (Great Western Railway) passenger charter is based on the lateness arriving at the ultimate destination.

If that doesn't work out, or the claim is declined for any reason, then the next step is to request compensation by exercising your rights under the Consumer Act 2015.

15:52 London Paddington to Moreton-In-Marsh due 17:26

15:52 London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh due 17:26 will be terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham and Moreton-in-Marsh.
This is due to a safety inspection of the track.

Cancellation wasn't confirmed until 1608 which is a pretty poor show considering it was inevitable once the HST had been booked. It was, however, 21 minutes late leaving Paddington - late arrival of inbound service due to problems at Swindon? - so chances are it would have been terminated at Oxford anyway.

The peak evening service onto the north Cotswold Line over the past few days has been especially ropy. Taking the 15:22 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):GMV, 15:52 PAD:MIM, 16:22 PAD:GMV, 17:22 PAD:HFD» (Hereford - next trains), 17:52 PAD:WOS» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains), 18:22 PAD:HFD and 19:22 PAD:HFD, over the last four weekdays just five out of twenty eight services have gone onto the Cotswold Line at Wolvercote Junction* within ten minutes of their scheduled time.

* no doubt timings will vary depending on where the "snapshot" is taken - Wolvercote Junction was my choice as the start of the Cotswold Line

Today's 15:52 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):MIM update from GWR (Great Western Railway)'s social media team:

Quote
it is likely it won't run [beyond Oxford] but it depends on what crew are available closer to the time.

So expect the cancellation beyond Oxford to be announced sometime after 3pm.

Compensation under the GWR (Great Western Railway) passenger charter is based on the lateness arriving at the ultimate destination.

Thanks - I had assumed that might well be the case.  In this instance, however, she was told via the help-point at Honeybourne to make her own way to Shrub Hill.  It happened that my daughter was available to drive her.  But a taxi could have been involved.

Given the bus operation north of Oxford over the weekend, I suspect that even if her journey had proceeded "as planned" the journey to Banbury would have been very lengthy anyway, so the delay minutes may not have been all that numerous.

I really don't understand why she wasn't advised to go to Stratford upon Avon.  I realise that she could have chosen this route for herself and avoided all the hassle that using "GWR" seems to entail these days.

Another amendment to add to the record!

1P40 17:38 Moreton-in-Marsh to London Paddington due 19:07 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at Moreton-in-Marsh.
This is due to a safety inspection of the track.

But let me introduce some good news, 1P42 17:26 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington is a 5 car IET (Intercity Express Train) (running with First Class at the rear, mind you!)  Grin

You'd expect that if the outward 1552 was terminated at Oxford?

Another "regular" this morning:

Quote
05:47 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 08:15 will be terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne, Evesham, Pershore, Worcester Shrub Hill and Worcester Foregate Street.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.

08:25 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington due 10:57 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at Worcester Foregate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Pershore, Evesham, Honeybourne, Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham, Charlbury and Hanborough.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.

And I'm waiting for GWR (Great Western Railway)'s social media team to give me the heads up on today's 15:52 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):MIM

And here's the update on the 15:52 Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh service.

Quote
It's going to terminate at Oxford all this week. We will try and source an IET (Intercity Express Train) set next week, not possible at the moment because of Newbury works

Presumably the cancellations will be drip fed at the last minute on a daily basis.

This means, as far as Cotswold Line running is concerned, this is now the most cancelled service for 2018 overtaking the 16:22 Paddington to Great Malvern (with the 08:25 Worcester Foregate Street to Paddington close behind!).

Further update, and good news:

Quote
The 1650 Oxford to Moreton In Marsh will operate today and tomorrow due to extra staff onboard the train so they won't have to reserve the train... [but] on Friday it will not operate between Oxford and MIM.

Perhaps one reason the cancellations aren't announced until the last minute might be because GWR (Great Western Railway) are trying to actively manage this which is to be appreciated.

Hopefully no problems with the 15:52 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):MIM today as the 15:22 PAD:GMV is going to be a snug two coach Turbo today.

A pair of regular favourites:

Quote
05:47 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 08:15 will be cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

08:25 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington due 10:57 will be cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

And the possibility/probability of the 15:52 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):MIM not going beyond Oxford this afternoon still to come (and it was very very cosy on yesterday's 15:22 PAD:GMV 2 coach Turbo).
