The impact of signalling problems spreads far and wide. Luckily, GWR (Great Western Railway) have an easy and regular fix for some congestion issues:

Quote
15:52 London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh due 17:26 was terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham and Moreton-in-Marsh.
This is due to a fault with the signalling system earlier today.
Last Updated:16/05/2018 16:54

17:38 Moreton-in-Marsh to London Paddington due 19:07 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at Moreton-in-Marsh.

And a very late call too.

Couple this morning:

Quote
05:47 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 08:15 will be terminated at Oxford.
It has been delayed at Didcot Parkway and is now 30 minutes late.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.

08:25 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington due 10:57 will be started from Oxford.

Whilst it was great to see the 15:22 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):GMV (and a number of other services) being booked as an HST (High Speed Train), not such good news on the return run:

Quote
18:29 Great Malvern to London Paddington due 21:05 will be terminated at Worcester Shrub Hill.
It will no longer call at Pershore, Evesham, Honeybourne, Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham, Charlbury, Hanborough, Oxford, Reading, Slough and London Paddington.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

and later on:

Quote
20:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 22:57 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

Today (Saturday May 26) is the first day of the big job to insert a second bridge south of Worcester.  It sees the Cotswold Line operating London - Evesham, with road transport beyond.

Today's cancellations:

Quote
06:18 London Paddington to Evesham due 08:19 will be cancelled.
09:18 London Paddington to Evesham due 11:19 will be cancelled.
09:22 Evesham to London Paddington due 11:30 will be cancelled.
12:28 Evesham to London Paddington due 14:30 will be cancelled.

All are due to a shortage of train drivers.

And some more...
Quote
15:28 Evesham to London Paddington due 17:30
16:18 London Paddington to Evesham due 18:23
17:18 London Paddington to Evesham due 19:19
17:25 Evesham to London Paddington due 19:30
18:18 London Paddington to Evesham due 20:23
21:36 Evesham to London Paddington due 23:51

Cancelling the 16:18, 17:18 and 18:18 from Paddington leaves a gap between 15:18 and 19:48.

I do feel that John McEnroe would have the right quote here.

John McEnroe's cry has been heard, for the 17:18 Paddington - Evesham has now disappeared from JourrneyCheck's list of 'cancellations', though it has not appeared as 'restored' in 'other train service updates'.

Meanwhile, for the record,

08:26 Evesham - Paddington is shown on RTT» (Real Time Trains - website) as "This service was cancelled throughout due to an error having been made (OC)."

09:22 Evesham - Paddington was restored, but starting from Moreton-in-Marsh.

11:25 Evesham - Paddington was also restored, starting from Moreton. Again, on RTT as "This service was cancelled between Evesham and Moreton-in-Marsh due to an error having been made (OC)."

Was it an error to send off the 10:25 at 11:35, so it never caught up with the curtailed 11:25? Maybe, but the full wording for code OC is: "Signaller, including wrong routing and wrong ETCS (European Train Control System)/ ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System.) instruction". All codes starting with "O" are Network Rail operational causes, and those starting with "T" are passenger TOC (Train Operating Company) causes.

For anyone who isn't aware, it looks as if the 5.55 from Kingham changes at Oxford, with the 0623 not running at all tomorrow and Wednesday, this is despite the travel update information which has been published not indicating any changed at all to the morning service from Kingham. I can understand that there's engineering works but not that the information given is incorrect. Only found out by chance as wanted to see what times trains were leaving Paddington in the evening

Thanks - yes wasn’t aware of that so would have faced a lovely 45 minute wait after the non-existant 0633 ex-Charlbury!

I did wonder at one point whether I'd missed the info on the updates, but have rechecked at there's no mention at all of any changes to services from Moreton southwards. Gwrhelp on twitter not very helpful neither as just retweeted the link to the updates. I'd have had a 1hr wait at Kingham otherwise as get the bus from Bourton. Not impressed with the info given (or not given) at all.

07:55 Evesham to Paddington was cancelled due to a shortage of train crew. Not the only one this morning however.

Seems like a good week to have taken off work.

Looking at Realtime Trains the service this morning seems to have been patchy at best:

0527 Evesham to Reading started from Oxford due to signal box not being open;
The equivalent of the 0447 Hereford to Paddington not scheduled to run;
0637 Evesham to Paddington terminated at Oxford due to problems with traction equipment;
0755 Evesham to Paddington cancelled as mentioned above.

And some further issues from JourneyCheck:

Quote
10:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 12:21 was terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne and Evesham.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

11:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 13:21 will be terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne and Evesham.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

12:21 London Paddington to Evesham due 14:19 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at London Paddington, Slough and Reading.
This is due to a broken down train earlier today.

17:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 19:14 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at London Paddington and Reading.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

And the return runnings of the 1022 & 1122 also affected:

Quote
13:17 Evesham to London Paddington due 15:27 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at Evesham, Honeybourne, Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham, Charlbury and Hanborough.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

14:25 Evesham to London Paddington due 16:27 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

Seems like a good week to have taken off work.

Ah ... and the drivers and managers with families are saying "Seems like a good week to have taken off work" too.
