And yesterday's 1551 from Foregate St to Paddington was started at Shrub Hill. On time as far as Charlbury, and then departed about 13 mins late waiting for the 1522 from PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) to come off the single line.

Guess what?

Quote
15:50 London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh due 17:26 will be terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Slough, Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham and Moreton-in-Marsh.
It has been delayed at London Paddington and is now 24 minutes late.
This is due to train crew being delayed.

and the return from MIM as well.

I was at PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) on another train and a problem on the inbound prevented trains from arriving at PAD around 4pm....hence no crew.

I've given up on the 15:50 Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh because I can't trust GWR (Great Western Railway) to run it beyond Oxford and now catch the 15:22 Paddington to Great Malvern...

Quote
15:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 17:58 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

I suppose a fair bit of notice has been given. Fingers crossed no problems with the 15:50 today.

Not looking encouraging at the moment - just left Slough 14 late!

Ran through to Moreton arriving 9 late, with a similar delay to its next working as a result.

And yet again:

This is the 25th time this year this service hasn't got beyond Oxford. I'm fortunate in that my employer let me alter my working hours so I could avoid this train but for many that's not an option.

Re 0528 - s that an IET (Intercity Express Train)? If so, there is an issue with the length of the train on Pl 1 & 2 that seems to be overhanging the points. NR» (Network Rail - home page) are working on a solution.

Not an IET (Intercity Express Train), no.  The reason was down to signal boxes not being opened in time between Hereford and Malvern - the ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) that forms it from St. Philips Marsh being diverted via Worcester this morning.  Though the ECS (3P12) was already 30 minutes late at Worcester, so it would probably have been late starting from Hereford anyway.

I think that's pretty much a cancellation as far as Cotswold Line users are concerned:

Quote
06:53 Worcester Foregate Street to Didcot Parkway due 08:28
06:53 Worcester Foregate Street to Didcot Parkway due 08:28 has been reinstated.
It will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at Worcester Foregate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Pershore, Evesham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham, Shipton, Ascott-under-Wychwood, Charlbury, Finstock, Combe and Hanborough.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Additional Information
Passengers please await the next available service to Oxford.
Passengers for Ascot, Finstock and Combe please await the next available service to Oxford and then alight at Kingham station and take the booked taxi from there to these intermediate stations.
Passengers from Ascot, Finstock and Combe please await the taxi to Oxford for onward connections.

The following HST (High Speed Train) made an additional stop at Shipton (and was standing room only by Oxford).

I was arriving in PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) this morning and at around 1120 observed a 2-car 165 departing to Worcester Foregate Street, absolutely rammed to the gunnels.

As it left, the Chiltern (Parliamentary) 165 pulled in next door, and I think 1 person got off!

Probably best to regard the Chiltern 'service' as a training turn available to passengers. I understand its main purpose (other than a legal one) is to keep route knowledge for drivers up-to-date ready for any diversions.

I would agree that it runs for route knowledge; as a "parly" I suspect it might have been cut back to once a week by now. I don't think a quiet in run is just tolerated because it is then jam-packed on the way out!
