Have just noticed this on RTT» (Real Time Trains - website). It is a ‘Q’ path to run Dec 2017 to May 2018
The route is Westbury to Weymouth direct then return and on to Melksham and Thingley jct before returning to Wesybury. Timed for a diesel loco.
Can anyone give more information?

That's the Network Rail monitoring train - on a 6 week cycle, so runs once ever 30 (Monday to Friday) days. It takes priority over passenger trains - so this path is why GWR (Great Western Railway) cannot use the unit that's parked in the bay at Swindon fro 16:24 to 17:54 to provide a 16:36 Swindon to Melksham and a 17:19 Melksham to Swindon (and Cheltenham Spa).

For reader information - the monitoring train, when it runs, passed Melksham at 17:07 northbound and returns at 17:38 southbound.   That's in the gap in services between the 16:37 passenger service to Swindon and the 18:03 passenger service to Trowbridge.  Can't imagine anyone would want to joint or leave trains at Melksham between 17:00 and 18:00 though  Wink ... can you?
