If the QR (QR Code - Quick Response code) code is scanned, does it mark the ticket as used in a central database somewhere........

I can't see how it would because of connection issues.

I'm just intrigued because guards are keen to visually check other tickets and clip them..... but just seem to QR scan the new ones....

It depends on the scanning software.

QR (QR Code - Quick Response code) cards, and all barcodes are just patterns of information.

The scanning software may confirm, show or record the details. It all depends on the system

Point of order; they're Aztec codes, not QR (QR Code - Quick Response code) codes.

The scanning software on board a train will allow the operator to accept ("clip") or reject the ticket and if rejected give a reason or it will automatically reject the ticket if it is invalid (such as SSS on a peak train, wrong train for an Advance etc).

So what would stop a new style ticket being re-used (if still in date) if its not physically updated like the old style ones get clipped or scribbled on.
