A friend told me of an incident that was unfolding as he was travelling back from Oxford on the above date.

1L68 was totally disabled in platform 2 at Didcot, passengers had been detrained and ushered to platform 4 for the next service to PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) which they couldn't all get on. A Cheltenham to PAD service then made an unscheduled stop at DID» (Didcot Parkway - next trains) on platform 3 which meant the pax were ushered back to platforms 2/3. The disabled train was headcoded 5L68 and continued to block the up main for 4 hours whilst attempts were made to find traction in the area which could be utilised to remove the errant stock. Eventually the stock for 1C26 at PAD was used by cancelling 1C26 and running the stock as 5C26 to Milton Junction and reversing from there into platform 2, coupling up and then dragging the errant stock back to Stoke Gifford via the Challow Down Loop.

Anyone in the know care to divulge what went POP.

Noted the errant train in platform 2 when I drove past yesterday.

Reported elsewhere that it was unable to take power when it switched from diesel to electric at the station. Driver then tried to revert to diesel but was again unable to take power hence the train was declared a failure. Sounds a bit similar to the incident which blocked the down main at Hayes a few months ago.
