At http://www.railwayoperators.co.uk :

The Institution of Railway Operators exists to advance and promote the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the railways, by improving the technical and general skills, knowledge and competence of those engaged in the operation of the railways.

New one on me .... have I had my head in the sand to have missed them, or are they very professional specific and don't reach passenger / community groups?

All I've heard of them doing is training and, specifically, defining and granting professional qualifications of a yes, very specialised and vocational kind.

In the board of directors profiles it says that Mark Hopwood manages 1,500 train movements a day across London, the Thames valley and South wales. Shurely shome mistake here. I thought the figure in recent months was nearer 15.

What is the problem?  You say '1 point 500' not '1 comma 500' so 1.5 trains a day meets your experience.

Many also think he should be in an institution.
