Four and a half years ago (!), I added a new board "TransWilts Community Rail Partnership" to the Coffee Shop forum, and wrote the following explanation to that new board.

If you are reading this  Grin ... you are one of just under 40 forum members who has access to the "TransWilts Community Rail Partnership" area of the forum.   WELCOME!

The purpose of this area includes ...
to allow discussions on feedback received from [potential/actual] users of the TransWilts services,
to allow for logging of performance in terms of passenger numbers, train running record, etc
to (pre) announce meetings, get proof reading and ideas for documents, etc
to look forward to what's coming up without people thinking it's here today
to provide a place where supporters can meet up and discuss personal logistics without making a public announcement that they'll be at "x" or "y"
and I've said "includes" as that's only a partial list

Administrators and moderators have access to this forum, and I have added in recent posters to the TransWilts board who have posted more than a few times (across the forum as a whole). All of the members selected have been consistently positive in their desire to make these forums and the current new service succeed.   Additional members will have the extra words "TransWilts Member" appear just below their name after each post, and they have an extra star.

The early days of the new TransWilts service are showing promising signs ... good loading and a good running record up until Christmas.  From then, the awful weather and engineering works and overruns have resulted in a drop in performance - understandable to "us here" who know a thing or three about trains, but enough to put some members of the public off already.  Fair enough - we expect it to work for 80% of people and the other 20% will be heard from disproportionally, but there's very much a need to answer / help these people join the majority if they can, or revert to old travel means on a mutual understanding and respect if it really isn't practical for them.  Others may have unrealistic expectations / requirements and, again, a need to explain understand each other / this group. We can learn a lot here by asking / discussing "why"; I'll be sharing some of what I get, and ask you to do the same.

I feel a little bit like "poacher turned gamekeeper" here - but the practicality of not publishing everything in public was brought home when a group turned up at Melksham station to catch one of the new trains 10 days before they started ...


Time has passed - and the TransWilts service and use has changed out of all recognition.  An experimental service flourished beyond targets and became permanent, with longer trains to cope with the passenger numbers (and a couple of extra trains too), and associated work such as the longer platform at Melksham are being completed.   Further developments such as Melksham Hub community and station building, and though services to and from Southampton running hourly with an increase in capacity on the single line, and a new station at Stonehenge and Wilton are now seriously possible in the next few years.

The forum has also changed, and with the coming of age of TransWilts, the board of the TransWilts CIC (Community Interest Company ) has required a separation - clear water - between the Coffee Shop and the Community Rail Partnership, and requires the particular board bearing its name - currently with around 60 members / readers - to cease to exist in its name, and with any hint of linkage removed.  The board felt that some of the views expressed on the Coffee Shop are not the views held by the board of TransWilts and stated that the linkage must be removed - that requirement trumping the Coffee Shop's statement on every page that "the views expressed are those of the individual posters ".

In order to effect the change required of us, which was announced on the board / to the member group yesterday, I have been moving historic posts to other areas which are most appropriate.  Members who have not been in the TransWilts CRP (Community Rail Partnership) area will find some mysterious old posts turning up, and the purpose of this "News and Assistance" message is to make everyone aware.   There are some 8 pages of posts to move - I am just over halfway though and plugging on. Please do let me know if you find any posts that you feel I have moved to the wrong place; it's a big job.

A discussion of the move is underway on the CRP board area; in a few days, that will be moved to "Frequent Posters" and the CRP board closed as required of us.  Please be re-assured that archive or current data is not being lost - in fact rather the reverse, as history is now much more widely available ... and we have the bonus of a forum which no longer hosts an area over which another organisation has a policy call.
