A couple of questions I was asked about Brexit ... and I don't know the answers

Will there be a net migration out of the UK (United Kingdom) of citizens of EU» (European Union - about) countries that will leave an insufficient pool of people to fill roles where they currently form a significant proportion of the work force such as driving buses?   How are or will transport companies deal with such issues?

With much UK rolling stock (trains and buses) built in countries that will remain in the EU, will there be instances where vehicles or whole units will be out of service waiting for spares which are stuck in customs?

There is already a shortage of bus drivers in Bristol and Bath if nowhere else, in Spring 2019 there will be a famine.

I did hear on a discussion BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) R4 programme that after Brexit that if some occupations find themselves with a shortage those occupations would be given a sort of "occupational status visa" permitting nationals of non EU» (European Union - about) countries to enter the UK (United Kingdom) and live and work here providing they remain in the occupation stated on their "occupational visa". I am sure there would be no shortage of applicants currently camping out near the ports the other side of the English Channel to the UK who would be willing to settle in the UK be they from Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria or wherever with the promise of employment so long as its as a bus driver in Bristol, Bath, Melksham, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Swindon or wherever there's such a skill shortage but I suspect such an aspiration would never come to fruition.

I remember in the 1960's and 70's that when the car industry was doing well, there was a shortage of bus drivers in Oxford and when the car industry was not doing well there was no shortage.  I could only assume either that jobs at Morris Cowley were better paid or otherwise better than driving buses.

…….it may certainly restrict the variety of sausages on the GWR (Great Western Railway) Sunday BBQs next summer!  Smiley
