The new website for the Wales TOC (Train Operating Company), Transport for Wales Rail Services (Gwasanaethau Rheilffyrdd Trafnidiaeth Cymru) will be:

https://tfwrail.wales

Just a holding page as I post, until the franchise changeover date of 14th October 2018.

Just had an email

Quote
Arriva Trains Wales will no longer provide ticket buying facilities on its website (www.arrivatrains.wales) and your customer account on this site will be closed at midnight on 13th October 2018. Rest assured this will not impact the collection or validity of any train tickets you may have already purchased from Arriva Trains Wales and ticket exchanges and refunds will still be possible as normal.
From 14th October www.tfwrail.wales will be the new website for train times, buying tickets and associated rail service information. On this website you can also set up a new customer account from the 14th October.

Hwyl.

TGWRail's poster heralding their arrival has a picture of a single-track line which probably looked the same 100 years ago - with not a train in sight.  I hope that's not their vision of the future.

Nor am I very keen on their new staff uniform for train conductors - looks more suitable for a funeral.

Time will tell, but for now they seem to be struggling to keep enough of their fleet in service to run the timetable, with some services being systematically cancelled on an almost daily basis.

The reason for the current shortage is due to the fact that between 20 and 30 units out of a fleet of 127 are out of service on a daily basis as a result of square wheels, PRM (Persons with Reduced Mobility) Modifications, storm damage after altercations with trees and other debris and flood damage.

The storm damage happened 5 weeks ago - how long does it take to get these trains back into service?  They actually managed to run a near-normal service in the week after the storms and most of the cancellations started the week after that, with no real improvement since then.

The biggest single issue now is that of the wheel flats, with units probably queuing up for the wheel lathe   As soon as one comes back into traffic another takes it place.      Some damage can take months to repair depending on the severity .
