Apologies admin if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't honestly sure where to post this.

Over the past week, I have noticed a few strange announcements being given on trains, and was wondering who / how they were controlled?

Let me explain. . .

Last Wednesday I was on the 1600 service from Paddington to Temple Meads last Wednesday, literally non stop from leaving London to the outskirts of Reading the train kept annnouncing that the next stop was "London Paddington" - this eventually sorted itself after leaving Reading

Last Thursday I was on the 1553 Temple Meads to Taunton local stopping service, the whole journey the announcements for the next station were always one ahead of where we actually arriving - It was announced the train was arriving into Yatton, when we were actually arriving at Nailsea, this happened all the way down to Weston (where I got off)

Last night I boarded at Temple Meads getting the delayed 1617 from Paddington to Westo, oddly everytime it gave a run down of where it was stopping it kept adding Taunton at the end (even though the service terminates at WSM), implying the service was being extended..

As a regular commuter it was amusing how bad these announcements were, but the confusion to those non regular travellers was very evident to see.

I couldn't understand how at worst there wasn't a way of stopping these announcements, and also why train Manager never used his microphone and correct the errors?

I'm assuming this must be a more common problem, otherwise getting three like this in under a week is very unlucky!

Happy to have that here / Bristol issues ... there's always a certain number of subjects that it's darned hard to work out the best place for.

The problem (the GWR (Great Western Railway) announcement one, not the "where do I put this" one) is common enough for it to have come up at a briefing I attended last week that gave an insight into the problems that are around at the moment.  Agreed that it's a laughing matter for us regular travellers, but really annoying and negative for the newcomer / unsure traveller for whom no announcement would be better that the wrong one.
