As part of the commemoration of 100 years since the end of the First World War in Europe, Melksham is staging an exhibition in the town hall looking at the fallen - but also those who survived, those who made huge sacrifices at home .... and the continuing daily life too.  To quote from the Melksham Remembers Facebook Page

Quote
Even with a war on, life in Melksham 100 years ago was similar to today.

On 22 September 1917, Mr Rowlett was walking on the high pavement by the Bell Inn and fell 4 or 5 ft onto the road. He sustained sprains, The Council apologised stating they would whiten the pavement. "When?" came the question
.

The exhibition is also open on 9th November for school groups, and on 11th around the Remembrance Service which takes place soon after the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial at 11 a.m.

All Welcome to Melksham on 10th and 11th November.  First Bus D3 are offering free travel to veterans and to anyone wearing a poppy on 11th; no similar concession I'm aware of on the trains, but it's just a 20 minute walk from the Station into the town.   Many shops have pictures from 100 years ago - what their shop front used to look like - in their windows.  Cafes will be open and the residents will - as always - welcome you.
