Looking at a google street scene of Melksham station, what is that slab of concrete they are putting in?, Is it a base for toilets and waiting room.

It looks to me as if that's a street view update as they were just about finishing the platform extension, with the barraged off area that looks like it might be having something put there actually just being cleared of remaining materials.

We do need toilets (our TOC (Train Operating Company) is happy for passengers to wait there for trains and replacement buses, but not for its own staff to be based there during periods of disruption because of the lack of loos.)  A different solution is in the pipeline - clearly a station where passenger numbers have risen 20 fold in five years has a better case for such facilities than it had at the start of the decade.   Cafe and volunteer / information point too  Grin

Also will there be a Ticket Office, like the one that's just been provided at Stonehouse.

Also will there be a Ticket Office, like the one that's just been provided at Stonehouse.

Stonehouse currently has about twice the number of journeys per annum that Melksham has, and also about twice the number of train calls - 35 per day v a maximum of 18 at Melksham.  And trains from Stonehouse go a lot further - class one trains to and from London all day and into the evening - with more of the same to be added (in place of class two trains). So it has a very different and better current case for a ticket office.

There is a ticket machine at Melksham. I have serious issues about what it charges for London trips at the weekend, but that's another issue.   Setting up a ticket agency in the new Cafe / Loos / information rooms looks like it's a difficult business case to make at the moment, and the volunteer training and reliable star scheduling needed would be significant; not something I would expect to happen.   Advise, a computer online with an ability to order from the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) on the platform, and a supply of cloths to dry it screen so it can be used in wet and windy weather seem probable.

I had thought that the station was to get an improved service to Paddington from Westbury, via Chippenham and Swindon.
