During the Whiteball Tunnel blockade in February/March 2019 there will be a requirement to divert West of England services over the ex-LSWR (London South Western Railway) route to Exeter. I understand that the intention is to make maximum use of the remaining available full HST (High Speed Train) sets. However, by that time, Old Oak Common will have been closed, so there will potentially be a lack of overnight stabling facilities for HST sets. Therefore, logically, the first couple of Down services would be covered by IET (Intercity Express Train) units.

Whilst discussing the overnight IET clearance testing run over the ex-LSWR route to Exeter on 30/11 here, the remote possibility of the bank between Exeter St Davids and Exeter Central not being cleared for IET running in time for the Whiteball Tunnel blockade was mentioned.

Should that remote possibility become reality, what overnight stabling for HSTs would be available at the Paddington end? Or, will there be a requirement for overnight EHSTs from Laira or St Phillips Marsh?

There is already a thread here but seems the Exeter Central to Exeter St Davids called off last night so still a known issue

It has been mentioned that Reading TCD will be used for the odd HST (High Speed Train), not sure if that is confirmed or not?

Reading TCD sees one HST (High Speed Train) stable during weekday afternoons. I wonder whether overnight stabling may be precluded due to lack of space.

All HST diagrams until year end have no overnight stabling at the London end. Sets start and end their day at either Laira, Long Rock or St Phillips Marsh, excepting one HST that overnights at Worcester.

Weekday HST diagrams from 10th to 28th December.

What about IC92 1803 the last Paddington - Penzance. Have GWR (Great Western Railway) the nerve to make it an IET (Intercity Express Train).

Well they are going to have to sooner or later as by the Spring GWR won’t be operating HSTs (High Speed Train) on IC (Inter City) routes.

Might be space or a need to keep one power car per set running if there is no shore line - and with the current legal case regarding depot noise referred to in the annual accounts it might have been thought prudent to avoid the practice at night.
