Why does that run round loop at Aberystwyth "fly" so far from the platform line?

So people in the train can see it, rather than have it block the view?

And because since it replaced a set of standard gauge lines there was plenty of space.

20.3 - correct, Gatwick Airport .. but NOT on a frequent trip to exotic foreign climes .. I rarely fly anywhere these days! Guessing without going back through my library that it was on my way back from Aalborg in Denmark which though pleasant enough is not really exotic!!

It was the platform number that gave it away for me, or to be more precise, the yellow number on a black background.
