Railway Development Across Wider Wiltshire

At one time, Wiltshire suffered more road deaths per head of population than any other county in the UK (United Kingdom) ... and that was because everyone passed though it on there way to somewhere else and few actually lived there. But that's history - two thirds of the population now lives in towns that have grown - typically "market" towns with significant travel requirements between them as people go about their daily lives.

The rail network remains very much "between land" that's served by trains passing through - some not stopping even once in the county.  Trains run at times designed to suit London or Bristol or Southampton or Plymouth or South Wales, with connections at Wiltshire's main interchange of Westbury at times seeming random.

The AGM of RailFuture (Severnside) will take place on 6th April 2019 at the Memorial Hall at Dilton Marsh. - 13:00 for 14:00.  Dilton Marsh Station is just a 10 minute walk from the Hall and is a microcosm of change in Wiltshire - set amongst fields in the countryside  a generation ago, housing has now expanded into the area and it has a natural walking catchment of around 9,000 people.

All are welcome to the AGM, which will be brief.  Then branch member Graham Ellis will talk about the changes in Wiltshire that he's seen since his involvement with the country started, and he will look forward to next year (with some certainly), to probabilities for the next decade, and to possibilities for later.

Trains at Dilton Marsh are running to an amended timetable on 6th April - the meeting is timed to allow you to arrive in the 13:04 from Westbury or the 13:05 from Portsmouth Harbour.  Return trains leave at 17:05 to both Westbury and Porsmouth Harbour.  Trains are replaced by buses north of Westbury that day - from Bristol Temple Meads, the 11:34 train connects to the 12:00 bus at Bath Spa. Truley a multimodal travel experince, and typical of the current scene in Wiltshire where major engineering works to help upgrades for those fast and frequent trains through the country are causing significant local disruption.  Back 18:06 at Bath Spa, 18:34 Bristol Temple Meads.

Come on an adventure on 6th April - come visit Dilton Marsh. All welcome.

Love a good audience ... and it will be an excellent chance for individuals who see a future in rail to Network

Well - I would click on "like" if we had a "sadly like" or "enjoy yourself" option.

Railfuture Severnside branch committee group meeting last night has selected 4th April 2020 for their AGM. This is the same date as our long-fixed date for the Coffee Shop AGM.  Clash noted prior to the decision being made; all other Saturdays in April (and late March and early May) were rejected because of [other] conflicts and none-availability.

If anyone has added the RailFuture event to their diary ... please take it out; unlikely to be 4th April even after the meeting the other day set the date.

Coffee Shop AGM remains 4th April.  Yes, I know it's Grand National day.

And please put the RailFuture event back in your diary for 4th April  Grin Grin ... at the Tavern Inn, next to the station at Kemble.    Conflict of dates for me ... probably not for too many others though.
