17:36 Swindon to Westbury due 18:17
17:36 Swindon to Westbury due 18:17 is being delayed at Chippenham.
This is due to animals on the railway.

18:32 Westbury to Swindon service will be diverted via Bathampton owing to the delay to the inbound working, meaning it has lost its path on the single line.

Indeed ...

Very interesting that the under-reason is the loss of the path ... not the continued presence of said animals!

18:32 Westbury to Swindon due 19:21

18:32 Westbury to Swindon due 19:21 will be diverted between Trowbridge and Chippenham.
It will no longer call at Melksham.
It will be starting late from Westbury.
This is due to animals on the railway.

Realtimetrains (which still thinks it's going via Melksham) is currently predicting it will arrive at Thingley at exactly the same time as the train heading towards Westbury.  So that's a bit disappointing, as a delay of a couple of minutes on the southbound service would seem preferable to a cancellation at Melksham on the northbound?

On some days (but not Wednedays) there's a freight path over the single line from Thingley to Bradford between these two trains - surely the diversion isn't being done for the freight that is (?) Monday, Thursday, Friday only.

Just noticed ... there's the MTuThO service I knew about and another WFO one which did run tonight and was on the single line ...

Unfortunately for the intending passengers of Melksham, the Wootton Bassett aggregate trip ran today. The schedule for this train is already a problem as the following Cheltenham to Southampton service is booked onto the single line before the aggregate train has passed Bradford Junction.

17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central due 20:44 is being delayed between Chippenham and Melksham and is now expected to be 11 minutes late.
This is due to a late running freight train.

Been experimenting with an automated log at http://www.mrug.org.uk/record.html and it comfirms that "Train 2000" as we call in if often delayed through Melksham.   As it sits for 9 minutes at Westbury in the schedule, time is usually made up ... just checked today, and 10 minutes late at Trowbridge was rescued to one minute late at Dilton Marsh!

Recenttraintimes.co.uk seems to do much the same thing, and I quite like the way the figures are presented. So it's quite easy to tell that in the third full week of services this year there has only been the one (animal related) cancellation on a weekday so far.  That seems quite a good record out of, what, 200 odd journeys so far?

It (RecentTimeTrains) is an excellent site but did not quite provide what was specified to me, so I am gathering data in a different way. Paradoxically, I could have done with a few more cancellations as well as the skip call purely for testing purposes.

I'm sure GWR (Great Western Railway) would have obliged if you had asked them nicely.

I hope the toilets at Melksham station are in good working order, Graham, as Journey Check states that the unit today is toiletless and that station toilets should be used Smiley Smiley

I wonder if arrangement are being made to have the loos at Trowbridge remain open once the staff go off duty ...

In all seriousness, lack of loos on the train is very minor compared to complete lack of trains.
