Understand it is the coping stones at the platform edge. May be closed over the weekend too.

Journeycheck shows all service that should have called not doing so today. In both directions, I note. Initially noted on the (extended) TransWilts services so posted on this board, is now more general to I have started a separate thread at http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=21259 .

17:41 Cheltenham Spa to Southampton Central due 20:44 will be terminated at Westbury.
It will no longer call at Dilton Marsh, Warminster, Salisbury, Romsey and Southampton Central.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Return train back from Southampton to Westbury cancelled completely

18:30 Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour due 21:55 will call additionally at Dilton Marsh.
This is due to the train making extra stops because a train was cancelled.

So taking the path of the 21:20 cancelled train off Southampton.  Makes sense.

Youve got to hand it to those Melksham Hub planners. The scheme has only just got through the Town Council, and already a ticket office is available  Grin

Bus ride, or changing at Westbury?

I am in something of a dilemma when the through Southampton trains - 06:36 and 19:15 at Melksham - have issues south of Westbury - to post under "TransWilts" or not.  These trains provide for two flows, both with a significant proportion of the passengers:

a) Passengers to Westbury changing there for onward journeys

b) Passengers travelling across Westbury

(for completeness, add flows from Swindon / Chippenham / Melksham to Trowbridge / Westbury as final rail destinations, and from Melksham to the Bristol area - change at Trowbridge)

These trains would be much more saleable and popular across Westbury if there were also through trains in the other direction!
