As of 0815 it seems that all have been reinstated according to Journey Check

Thank you - yes - relieved.   Still a characteristic slash on our top-of-page map but something of a none-event now; 3 cars in place of 2 on one of the trips  Grin Grin

Melksham 08:03 (v 07:49 for the train replaced), 08:23 (v 07:59) at Chippenham, 09:02 (v 08:15) into Swindon - slight chance of Swindon arrival at 08:40 if a 2 minutes 'connection' is made from bus to train at Chippenham. Noting that bus is allowed only standard bus times (no extra added for peak loadings, peak traffic or road work in Melksham), that 2 minute connection is optimistic (also not tracked via online systems)

Replaces 08:53 train from Swindon, due Westbury 09:41.   Connection leave Swindon 09:01 (bus sensibly timed to leave Chippenham after that train has arrived there)

Well ... that's a new way of making up time.

10:58 off Swindon (11 late), 11:19 at Melksham (7 late) ... will look at Westbury a bit later and see how it did.

That must be one of the most absurd stop skipping I have seen in a long time.  Why on earth would GWR (Great Western Railway) do that?

Glad it's not just me scratching my head.   It reduced lateness of 11 minutes off Swindon to 4 minutes at Westbury, and meant that the connection at Westbury into the Yeovil to Waterloo train worked.

However, keeping that connection from Swindon and Melksham (only) to Salisbury was probably less important (by an order of magnitude) than Chippenham - Melksham, Chippenham - Trowbridge, Chippenham - Westbury, Swindon - Trowbridge and Melksham - Trowbridge journeys.  Swindon - Chippenham and Trowbridge - Westbury there are plenty of other trains.

Generous(ish) turn around at Westbury of the "Melksham Flyer" on that run - more than enough time even if 11 late all the way.  No conflicting moves on the single track so the Chippenham skip doesn't look like it was done to clear the single line in tie for a freight train.

Hindsight from an armchair is marvellous stuff.   Doing it the way it was done, more than half the stops were covered (so I don't think it counts as a cancellation), and calling at Melksham means it doesn't show up as a failure at Melksham in my MRUG» (Melksham Rail User Group - site) logs  Wink

I took it on myself to Tweet GWR (Great Western Railway) and asked about advice for passengers in respect of the 1832 and was told to catch the 1932.   I have now asked about the 2008 ex Swindon and waiting reply also pointing out that road transport has been sourced on recent occasions
