Facilities on the 05:17 Gloucester to Southampton Central due 08:09.
This is due to a fault on this train.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3.

At least it's running ... plenty of space on the TransWilts leg; may get a bit comfy into Southampton!

I was actually on that train on Monday morning and "may get a bit comfy into Southampton!" didn't apply - actually plenty of space.   However, due off Salisbury at 07:36 it didn't leave until 07:52 and I suspect that the majority of the  regular users who join there took the 07:50 SWR» (South Western Railway - about) train - certainly very few joined where normally I would expect quite a surge.    Very quick turn around at Soton - I blinked and it were gone, with an impressive number joining it back to(wards) Romsey.

We grumble about the high cancellation rate on the TransWilts.   However, I am not grumbling about these ... except that I wish we could do more to help avoid people being hit by trains.

Where does "trains cannot be turned around at Trowbridge" come from?

THere is a crossover not far away and HSTs (High Speed Train) were being reversed there regularly when Box tunnel was closed for electrification work.

THere is a crossover not far away and HSTs (High Speed Train) were being reversed there regularly when Box tunnel was closed for electrification work.

It's a colloquialism / sloppiness with words on my part, I'm afraid, Robin.  I should have written "the signalling does not allow trains to be turned around in the platform at Trowbridge".

Trains from Melksham can pass over Bradford Junction, cross over onto the Bristol-bound line and stop short of signal 190 which is (I think) a fixed red aspect. The driver switches ends and can then proceed towards Bristol (or indeed back via Melksham) when signal 119 is cleared.   Trains from Bradford on Avon can similarly stop short of signal 190 (or 90 on the Westbury bound line) then head up for Melksham when cleared by 219 (or 119).

Signals 90 and 190 are both some distance north of the platforms at Trowbridge, and it's my understanding that once a train passes signal 90 it's onto a single direction line and can only be signalled forward to Westbury and not back towards Bradford Junction.

So Wrong Line Working would have to be authorised, and that could of course be done in the circumstances make it necessary.

That clears that up Grin
