New thread tomorrow, (or hopefully rather later than tomorrow  Grin Grin )

Summary report for December for TransWilts via http://www.mrug.org.uk/record.html

December report on train performance at Melksham

Summary - December started quite well. Fell apart from 15th to 24th December with the new timetable. Good recovery for the short period between Christmas and the New Year, though even then the 4.3% cancellation rate is twice the worst-case target.

Thanks to GWR (Great Western Railway) for running some buses - though not always. GWRHelp on 21st December advised me to wait for the 15:33 train when I was due to catch the 10:20 rather than suggesting / providing an alterative (I actually switched to the Faresaver bus at more than twice the price as I had a 12:00 appointment in Chippenham)

Data for the 05:33 was not correctly collected for the first couple of mornings it ran - I have filled in as "On Time" as that was what the data on Real Time Trains suggested happened.

5th December help point log of cancelled train to Paddington a data error (!) - only makes a tiny difference to the stats.  Log of an EARLY train is a surprise.  I suspect it would have waited time at Melksham in practise.

---- Analysis --------

For ALL of December:
Buses 9
Cancel 33
Short delay 76
Long delay 26
Early 1
On time 326

7.1% cancellation
87.3% ppm

--------------------------------

For 15th to 31st of December:
Buses 7
Cancel 26
Short delay 37
Long delay 13
Early 1
On time 148

11.6% cancellation
82.7% ppm

--------------------------------

For 15th to 24th of December:
Buses 5
Cancel 23
Short delay 27
Long delay 12
Early 1
On time 93

14.7% cancellation
77.6% ppm

--------------------------------

For 27th to 31st of December:

Buses 2
Cancel 3
Short delay 10
Long delay 1
Early 0
On time 55

4.3% cancellation
94.2% ppm

For ALL of December:
26 cancelled "a shortage of train crew"
3 cancelled "a fault on this train"
3 cancelled "a broken down train"
1 cancelled "a tree blocking the railway"

No trains from Chippenham today due to a damaged bridge between Chippenham and Bath. Checking online the 11:20 Westbury service looked like it had survived however on arrival at the station it appears to have been cancelled. I guess no ones fault. I wonder how long (days) this will continue for.

EDIT: 11:20 is cancelled but other trains appear to be running and National Rail Enquires website state repairs are completed. Really bad communication from GWR (Great Western Railway). Luckily this time it was my outward journey so I'm able to walk home and work, I'm probably best out of it, seems like further delays are possible.

Looks like it's fixed quicker than they expected ... [[ following up on a new(!) thread for 2020 at http://gwr.passenger.chat/22685 ... ]]

Yeah, well the 11:20 was cancelled and that's the one I intended to get. My experience tells me this always knocks on and to expect the classic 'shortage of train crew' cancellations later in the day. I'm staying at home. Looking at Chippenham station on Real Train Times and it appears the only train cancelled was the Swindon to Westbury service, what a surprise.
