Stoke Gifford IET (Intercity Express Train) depot fire alarms sounded around 4am. Depot evacuated from 0416-0443.

Consequently, many sets were late leaving the depot for their first service of the day and have had to start short. Not just Hereford starters affected.

Quote
Due to fire alarms sounding this morning at Stoke Gifford depot, sets departed late and have resulted in numerous service alterations, namely:
- 1K71 0515 Bristol TMs(resolve) to Paddington, terminating short Westbury
- 1P12 0528 Hereford to Paddington, starting from Worcester SH (and now running 18mins late)
- 1A70 0605 Frome to Paddington, starting from Westbury
- 1A06 0618 Weston to Paddington, starting from Bristol TMs
- 1A09 0712 Taunton to Paddington, starting from Weston;
- 1G02 0640 Swindon to Cheltenham cancelled throughout.

The additional Maidenhead stop having being put in as the 17:18 Paddington to Oxford was run fast to Twyford due to it being two coaches instead of six.

Due to a points failure between Worcester Shrub Hill and Cheltenham Spa:
Train services running through these stations may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 08:15 11/04.

05:28 Hereford to London Paddington due 08:28 will be terminated at Moreton-in-Marsh.
It will no longer call at Charlbury, Hanborough, Oxford, Reading and London Paddington.
It has been delayed at Worcester Shrub Hill and is now 25 minutes late.
This is due to a points failure.

06:56 Moreton-In-Marsh to London Paddington due 08:28
An additional train service has been planned to operate as shown 06:56 Moreton-in-Marsh to London Paddington due 08:28.

In reality the stock for the 07:10 MIM:PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) was used for the "additional" train, and the 05:28 HFD» (Hereford - next trains):PAD became the 07:10 MIM:PAD.

[edit]

Just noticed this Tweet:

Quote
Stunning service from @GWRHelp today. 7.20 Kingham to Oxford went straight through the station without stopping. Now all crammed into 2 carriages on late 7.36

Which suggests that despite its change from the 05:28 HFD:PAD to the 07:10 MIM:PAD, a miscommunication meant it went straight through Kingham!

[further edit]

talking about closing the door after the horse has bolted:

Quote
07:10 Moreton-in-Marsh to London Paddington due 08:51 will no longer call at Kingham.
This is due to a points failure.

Last Updated:11/04/2019 08:06

And the disruption from the problem with the points is now expected to last until 11:00.

I don't know if there is an ongoing problem at Norton/Abbots Wood but last Monday the 0649 Shrub Hill to Cheltenham and beyond was cancelled, though the 0708 to Paddington via Cheltenham did run. On the Thursday this latter train was cancelled, but the 0735 was running - albeit leaving Worcester late (though, to be fair, it was back on time at Reading).

It was my first trip on the line for some time. It's disappointing that the platform extensions - which were finished before Christmas - have still not been brought into use. What's that all about?
