I have boarded a train there only once, and never disembarked there.

I remember, as probably will RichardB, when a similar event was held many years ago to celebrate Oldfield Park’s birthday, possibly 60th? Happy memories as they ran a design a birthday card for the station and I was very fortunate to win first prize.

Would love to attend but no longer living in the area and being abroad the weekend before and most of the following week makes it a little difficult.

I wish it well and hope everyone who goes has a good time. It’s a great little station and was great growing up in the area to see it go from strength to strength.

Yes, it was the 60th in that very church hall on the anniversary itself, that year a Saturday.  I organised the event (we've reminisced about it before on the Coffee Shop).  As it happens, the Bath Chronicle's photo library is now at the Bath Record Office and I recently visited them to see if I could get copies of the photos.  It helped and made it much easier that I had the contact sheets with the necessary codes.  For some reason, I never bought any prints at the time. Anyway, the Record Office (in the Guildhall) very kindly lent me the negatives and I had some of them scanned.

I'm away from Plymouth now until Thursday but, when I'm back, I'll post a few.  I certainly have some of the birthday card competition entrants with their cards!  These photos will be on display on the day and, all being well, I'm going to be there too.

Oldfield Park is my local station, and I certainly intend coming to this event. The local community group do a very good job making the station attractive, while First has certainly made some good improvements in the last few months, both to the service we receive and to the station itself, with information screens and announcements. However, I hope they also get round to mending the shelter on the Westbury-bound platform before this event, which is currently open to all elements in the worst of this winter's weather.

It's an interesting coincidence that the 18th is a Monday again, as it was when the station had its first service.

Here goes.  First photo is of Paul Baulch in his GWR (Great Western Railway) stationmaster's uniform on the platform.  Second is of him with the Mayor of Bath, Cmdr John Malloy, and Michael Harding, the longest serving commuter (we could find, anyway) - he'd been travelling to work from the station for 13 years.  The Mayor had travelled the short distance from Bath Spa on the train.  The Bath Chronicle's report is also attached.

Here are some photos of the exhibition - Bob Bunyar (holding the lamps) and Mark Bladwell with their railwayana. A Bath Green Park totem cost around £600 then - an amount I thought was a huge sum!.  Two photos too of people (I don't have their names, I'm afraid) with model locos.  Bob is planning to be there on 18th Feb too.

Here's the Mayor cutting the cake - who's that bloke with the beard, I wonder  Wink and, with the Mayor, a chap with a ticket that his dad had bought on the day the station opened.  He just turned up on the day and said "I've got this ticket" - it was great.  It would be lovely if one of his relatives brought the ticket along on the 18th.

And last, but definitely not least, the Birthday Card competition.

Not long now until the celebrations at Oldfield Park.

Does anyone have any railwayana from or closely linked to Oldfield Park that they could bring along on Monday afternoon?  Or do they know anyone with anything relevant who could do this.  The heritage display for Monday could do with more items and the more the merrier.  Would be best to arrive by 15 30 with items but if needs to be later, not a problem.

I understand that the Mayor of Bath is travelling from Bath Spa to Oldfield Park by train (as his predecessor did in 1989) and looking forward to seeing him arrive and then to the event itself.

Well done to the Oldfield team (I think Severnside CRP (Community Rail Partnership) and GWR (Great Western Railway)), a very appropriate celebration. It was a pleasure to drop in and see the support from the local community.
