or a bit further up, on the Weymouth Single near where it crosses the LSWR▸ (London South Western Railway) main line, so the nearby station is Yeovil Junction?

Is carrying burning hay a wise thing to do? 

I suspect the picture is somewhere on The Beach line - perhaps near Sea Mills or Porkway Partway?

Yes. Over three sodding hours ago I was on the common land next to Shirehampton Station. It has taken three and a half hours to get from Shirehampton to Sedgemoor Services. Had to stop. Both my and Finn's bladder were bursting. Plus we need eats. Of course, the Spar here at the services had just closed so no dog food. Breaded chicken bites from WHSmith for Finn. Maccy D's for me.

Oh, and the lorry was still on fire as I passed it around 2215. Incident first report at 1805!

Wish I'd done trains all the way to Swindon and Bristol today. But was a nice bit of nostalgia travelling by train around my old stamping ground. A first trip down the requadrified Filton Bank, and the less wanted nostalgia of a rammed 2 car Class 150 on the 1803 from Bristol TM‡(resolve) to Shirehampton.

And just to rub it in further, my Maccy D's took 32 minutes to receive after monumental cock ups by the staff. Yes they were busy following the traffic delays but no one else waited anywhere near as long as me. My order just disappeared off the screen and then came back from the car park after being given to the wrong person by calling the wrong number. My food had to be recooked as the person who returned it had had it for over 15 mins and it was stone cold.

Arrived home just after midnight. By my reckoning, total journey time of 5h10m to get from the Avonmouth junction of M5 to Chard, which includes the 50 minute stop at Sedgemoor Services. Usually that journey would take between 65-80 minutes.

Now I need to find details of the haulier/farmer whose hay lorry caught fire, so I can send them my Delay Repay claim. Grin

I avoid motorways whenever possible, far too busy for my liking. The A roads might take longer but there are variations you can make more easily if roadworks and the like happen.

I think St Christopher had the day off yesterday, not just his roads division either.

I attended a meeting in Peterborough, (drove - car share - no problems), but another attendee travelling by train from Sheffield gave up his journey after 4 hours, only reaching Nottingham, where he gave up when the next two onward trains were cancelled.

He did ... (take the day off). Very rare trip to a place on the outskirts of Bath, had to drive for once.  Took half an hour to park ...
