We took our boat up-river from Worcester to the wondrous Camp House Inn at Grimley yesterday. The Camp House sells very potent scrumpy of the sort that might have you seeing things, but I swear this was real:

A narrowboat missed the entrance to the lock cut and ended up on Bevere weir. A tug came up to try and pull him off (...stop sniggering at the back please) but was too deep-draughted to get close enough. There was some talk of a tractor towing the boat off today.

What’s the signage like at the upstream end of Bevere Island please Richard?   How is it possible to miss the main channel coming down the river?

Signage is good. There are a couple of motorway-style advance direction signs (like the one in the pic), plus big poles in the river with (smallish) red signs on them instructing you to keep to the right.

If you weren't paying attention... I guess the weir channel is broad and, unusually, it has a bridge over it, which might mislead you into thinking it's the through navigation. But I believe Hereford & Worcester Fire Service described the skipper as being "in an intoxicated state"!

Thanks.  I’ve been down there back in 2006, and just couldn’t remember anywhere with a possibility of accidentally taking the wrong stream.  I suppose if the CRT(resolve) or BW previously had any worries they’d have a string of buoys across there...
