Posting (for diary) in response to a member request for clarification - all of these are events available to everyone.

3rd and 4th August - Stand at West Somerset Steam Fayre and Vintage Vehicle Rally, Norton Fitzwarren
7th September - informal meeting at the Strawberry Line Cafe, Yatton, 2 p.m.
21st September - national conference at St Michael's Centre, Bristol Parkway
16th November - meeting at Stonehouse Community Hall, 2 p.m.

If being selective / limited in the time I had available and only able to choose one or two, I would firstly go for the national conference which promised to be a real good event with quality speakers and lots of people to meet, and second to support the stand at Norton Fitzwarren in a couple of weeks time.  Third would come Stonehouse where I think the local committee may be planning an interesting speaker.

Well it's not often you get to say "interesting" and "Stonehouse" in the same sentence! (I grew up midway between Stonehouse and Stroud so might be biased... )

It's because something is rare (such as that combination) it becomes newsworthy  Grin Grin

Confirmation - Railfuture Severnside, meeting on 16th November at the Stonehouse Community Hall which is "close to the existing station on the Gloucester to Swindon line".    Reposting as a reminder, and also because I had made some typos - now corrected - in my earlier post and want to be sure you have the right date and venue  Grin

The notes I have about Stonehouse from the reminder come from the minutes of the previous branch meeting - on 7th September.  They refer to the Stroud District Council Housing Development Plan which "made almost no reference to rail and appeared to favour housing at locations which were difficult to serve by public transport".  Also "A reopened Stonehouse Bristol Road Station would be well placed for both industrial estates and the Stroudwater Canal".

I will be meeting several of the branch committee on Saturday and will post further details of the meeting to follow up.

For a 2 p.m. meeting ... arrive 10 mins or 2 hrs 10 mins ahead?

Melksham to Stonehouse on the direct train on a weekday morning is 1 hour and 5 minutes.  This gives me no ticketed option except one with 56 minutes at Swindon.  I understand everything cannot connect, but I restate my case that the quickest journey at any time should always be offered at least on an "any permitted" ticket!
