What are YOU doing this bank holiday weekend?  Answers in a post please  Grin

My answer ...

After the busiest week in a long time at my "day job" - presenting an exhausting course - I'm sitting back at my keyboard and relaxing a bit - which for me involves updating websites, catching up with friends, correspondence, etc.  Come Tuesday, I start another fullish week with three out of four "day job" days that have, like last week's zero connection with transport.

Some website updates / posts

I am keeping well away from trains or tourist attractions on account of the overcrowding likely.
I enjoy visiting the WSR but NOT on a bank holiday weekend.
I enjoy visiting local pubs, but again not on a holiday weekend.

I have ample supplies of cold roast beef, beer, and other supplies.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

I started my weekend finalising the plans for a month of house and dog sitting in September.

Then to Swindon for a meal with a fellow forum member and overnight stay. Where sleep was hard to come by thanks to an absolutely trollied couple shouting, arguing, effing and jeffing to the rear of the friends house.

I had planned to then go to Crofton Beam Engines near Bedwyn, next to the Kennet & Avon Canal and Berks & Hants railway, but due to tiredness and not being able to take Finn into the engine house I curtailed that trip. Far too hot to leave Finn in the car at all. So back home to put my feet up and watch the cricket.

I'd just got comfortable back home in Templecombe when Mum called to tell me her toilet cistern was constantly filling. So, over to Taunton to replace a broken float valve. Took a while to find somewhere that stocked the correct part. It wasn't a bog(!) standard ballcock type valve. Ended up sorting her TV reception too.

Tomorrow (Sunday) is a day pottering about the flat.

BH Monday I'm off to the Gartell Light Railway, just up the road from my home, to ride the rails and do some photography. Finn is welcome there! (So... might see you there rogerw!)

I have ample supplies of cold roast beef, beer, and other supplies.

All round to yours then BG (Brake Gangway (carriage)). I'll bring the horseradish and English mustard! Grin

Just back from a visit to Dawe’s Twine Works, West Coker for their monthly open day. Now fully restored it is the only working twine works with the original Victorian equipment.
My role was the write its history and that of Coker Canvas, a world renowned sailcloth.
Today was just about finding time to chat.

Definitely not the weekend for cycling on the South Coast.
Definitely need to get out of Reading (there are going to be a lot of awfully red people on Monday)
Go against the flow of traffic a bit, to London.

Wanted to see if I can sort out the Wandle Trail. Tried before North to South, starting at Wandsworth Town and eventually gave up with the confusing and inconsistent signage. This time tried South to North, District Line out to Wimbledon and then my first trip on London Trams out to Wandle Park. Made some progress but signage still is confusing, managed to re-join the bit I did the first time and then completely lost it and ended up in Putney?? SWR» (South Western Railway - about) to Waterloo and cycle to Paddington (at least I know that bit).

Met neighbours in the pub and say agreed that the signage is unclear. I think I will leave it at that and return to my usual cycling haunts.
