Looks like thereís a portion detach at Newbury according to realtimetrains (and subsequent working back from Newbury by the detached portion), so I think itís more likely to be a 10-car.

Ah right - a quart pot but a pint syphoned off en-route!   Makes sense.  Thanks for pointing that out - I should have noticed!
