I'm affraid I just had to post this quote from the WNXX (Stored Unserviceable, Mainline Locos HQ All Classes) Forum here concerning the new West Coast Partnership:

Quote
The new logo, The Avanti West Coast logo, created by design agency forpeople, is a bright orange triangle, symbolising the geographic extent of the 400-mile long route that serves cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow as well as London and North Wales.

Can someone explain how a bright orange triangle symbolises anything other than a bright orange triangle? Since six places are mentioned maybe a 6 pointed star, with one point frayed to represent the many towns served in North Wales.

I appologise to the moderators if this has offended any design consultants on here, and if so, perhaps my post should be removed.  Its all down to a sense of humour brought about by 50-years of working in the S&T (Signalling and Telegraph), you know........

Don't much like the name either.  A quick google shows that Avanti is also 1) a travel insurance provider (ooh, can see a link there)  2) a Global communications company (could provide the wifi I guess), a cleaning supplies company (could be used for the toilets) and a hindu faith schools trust (I'm struggling with that one, I'll admit).

Wonder how much they paid the marketing consultants to come up with that name. However much it was, it was too much.

Further update, I've also seen on twitter that Avanti is also a brand of condom. Now that gives some very interesting opportunities for an all over advertising wrap. Picture of one heading into the Haymarket tunnels anyone?

I suppose once it's no longer a Virgin operation ...
