Managed to photograph this today; had been meaning to for ages. I have not seen many others.

They were common back in the old days when I was but a nipper.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Remember them around Reading.  However they never seemed to last long before the rubber split and got ripped up by passing traffic.

This one was linked to the traffic lights allowing traffic from the north to join the main road in Bridport. The opening of Sea Road North and South, along the route of the Bridport to West Bay railway line, diverted the traffic away from this road. It has lain here unused since then.

For those who know the Stokes Croft area of Bristol, one of these can still be seen at the bottom of Sydenham Road near the junction with Nine Tree Hill and Stokes Croft; a junction that's now closed to motor vehicles from Sydenham Road and has been for over 20 years (I'm not entirely sure how long but I think it was in the 90s). Until less than 10 years ago, you could also see metal strip road markings there too. Those are now covered though, or perhaps removed.

Redevelopment of the Carriageworks site started last year, preserving the facade of the Victorian workshop and totally demolishing the ugly 1960s office block (Westmoreland House? something like that) next to it. Which probably leaves Hamilton House as the ugliest building on Stokes Croft, but at least that's in use. For the moment anyway.
