The FoSBR» (Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways - site) AGM (Annual General Meeting) will be held at 7.30 on Friday 14th February at the Randall Room at All Saints Church, Clifton. This is on Alma Vale Road, near the corner of Pembroke Road (BS8 3ED). It is a ten minute walk from Clifton Down Station. Please note that this is a different venue to that we have had for the last two years’ AGM (although it is only some 250m away).

The main speaker will be Professor Stuart Cole of the University of South Wales, who will be sharing his experience of the Cardiff Metro project.

Non-members are welcome. Please see FoSBR website for full details.

Headed for the AGM (Annual General Meeting) tomorrow ...

Bit concerned at the connection on the way back at Temple Meads - can Google really recommend that?

What tickets should I get (senior railcard, no ENCTS (English National Concessionary Travel Scheme) pass yet)

That does look like a rather ambitious connection...

Just back from the AGM (Annual General Meeting), well actually an hour ago but jolly interesting it was. It was also good to finally meet two of the Coffee Shop luminaries!

A worthwhile evening - a good chance to network, great to pick up on Bristol area updates, and an excellent overview of Cardiff and its transport issues and plans from Prof. Stuart Cole. I would love to see a similar presentation for Bristol as it might be given in Cardiff.

A changed personal decision; rather than going along as an occasional guest, last night I "signed up" and joined FoSBR» (Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways - site) as a member.  Bristol is quite a journey from my home in Melksham, and previously it's been the "next community area across". However, public transport responsibility moves from Bristol / BaNES / South Gloucestershire to WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about) in about six weeks.   Melksham very much has a 'travel to work', 'travel to study', 'travel to leisure' and 'travel to hospital' link to Bath, and rather less to Bristol - but the whole transport responsibility now falls into the same big WECA pond, with a shared responsibility (with Wiltshire) on cross border services.

I attend meetings - a lot of meetings ... and I would also like to record a "five star" rating to the setup / organisation / running of last night. And I don't give five stars casually.

Grahame - How did the 4 minute connection work out?

I've noticed too that Google occasionally presents ambitious connection times. When I have followed their schedules I have caught my connection on about 2 out of 3 journeys and missed out on the remaining occasions, usually caused by slightly late arrival of the first train. If I see that by missing the connection I will arrive at my final destination about an hour later, I will normally try to start my journey earlier using another journey planner, NRE(resolve) or Travel Line South East both of which have advantages and disadvantages.

Grahame - How did the 4 minute connection work out?

I note the question; an excellent hook for me to hang a longer post on tomorrow.   Short answer - I caught the 21:59 off Clifton Down rather than the 22:33.

Main speaker at the FoSBR» (Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways - site) AGM (Annual General Meeting) was Prof Stuart Cole, who gave an account of the Cardiff Metro project. I've put a summary on the FoSBR site, which you can read here: https://fosbr.org.uk/cardiff-metro/
