Looks like an interesting morning!

In the end, the 05:17 ran (empty? Late? via Melksham or via Bathampton?) to CHIPPENHAM where it reversed and - a few minutes late (after the arrival of the first train from London / Swindon) - set off for Southampton, re-instating calls at Chippenham and Melksham and giving a connection from Swindon too - so nothing lost Southbound.

Although it looks to be around 10 minutes late at Westbury (question over the London connection used by some passengers from Trowbridge), it probably won't need the 12 minutes at Salisbury in the timetable.

Sensible solution ... pity the electronic passenger system sent out cancelled messages to passengers for whom a service was then provided; hope it didn't put too many people off.  The online system seems very binary - either "Cancelled" or not for a train in the future.  I do wonder if "Check Back" or something could be used to alert people to an element of doubt.

Looks like regulars would have made it at Westbury ... though Real Time Trains is a bit granular.  A minute to change - quick dash under the subway.  No connections missed at Salisbury, and it left there on time.

08:11 Warminster to Swindon due 09:03
Facilities on the 08:11 Warminster to Swindon due 09:03.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3.

Lots of short forms today ... from reports, although I thought they were supposed to be 2 cars only in the first place.

Interestingly, reports starting to come back of train use - including one suggesting that social distancing was / is beginning to be a bit tight and asking "should the train be stepped up to 3 cars?".

Well, pleased to report there were three coaches on the 13:41 Swindon to Weymouth.  Be welcome on its return trip from the seaside.

(Don?t shout it out loud but spotted it from the restaurant while eating our anniversary meal!)

13:40 Exeter St Davids to London Paddington due 16:14
13:40 Exeter St Davids to London Paddington due 16:14 will be diverted between Westbury and Reading.
It will no longer call at Pewsey and Newbury.
This is due to a fault with the signalling system.

Diversion(s?) via Melksham this afternoon ... unsure how many, but looks like they've done so without any local cancellations - THANK YOU.

That was the only diverted service in the end.  A couple of other passenger trains delayed by around 30 minutes plus one freight but kept to their original route.

Luckily the one which was diverted dovetailed well with the booked services on the single line.
