Err ... diesel train ?

Agreed, and I don't know the specific reason for the cancellations, but the points and signals need electricity.

This is due to a points failure.

And 2 more coming through

... first one running close to the path of the 07:04 from Westbury to Cheltenham Spa ... but - no worry this time - that's not running at the moment anyway.

... second one in the gap between the 07:52 and 10:01 at Melksham; no same-direction delays and it will be well clear before the 09:09 in the other direction.

The 06:11 from Swindon was delayed to allow the rescue loco to come up the single line.  Had to be sent from Westbury to Reading and then Newbury to attach to the front of the failed train near Kintbury.

My heart misses a beat when I see a great glob of blue on out map at the top left of the page.

Today's, though, totally acceptable.

I really must try to get into the code to make these go red, blue or green (calamity, oh dear and Thank You respectively!)

Hmm ... not a brilliant day ... feeling a bit down ... felt like doing a bit of playing around.   All experimental stuff but the map is slightly more coloured:

Red - Cancellation
Brown - Toilet problems
Green - something additional (train or stops)
Dark Blue - delayed or late
Normal Blue - I haven't yet identified any key words in this report!

I will keep my eyes open over coming days and weeks and fine tune - for the moment, do not trust the colours to be accurate ....

adding ...
Orange - different length train to planned (e.g. 5 carriages for 10)
Magenta - only running part of the route (not calling at all stations)

Can't be a broken rail AT Melksham, otherwise the whole train would be cancelled.
So a broken rail somewhere on a double line??

Likely on the single line through Melksham, with the train diverted from Trowbridge up to Bathampton, reversing there and through Corsham to Chippenham.

Could possibly be a planning error.   Neither train appears on Real Time Trains.  In addition two services to the West of England have been diverted via the single line - due to pass Melksham at 09:04 and 09:53.

Real time trains suggests that an IET (Intercity Express Train) from London to Plymouth (an "important" train) passes Melksham at 09:05 and Journey Check suggests that the 08:47 from Westbury to Swindon (a train that key workers were delighted to get back couple of weeks ago through scheduled 27 minutes later than normal today, and has built up again quickly) was due to call at 09:04.

Looks like a planning error.  Has it really just come light this morning, I wonder?  Planning must have been done at least a few days ago and people can re-arrange if they know.

With the next London to Plymouth train on the single track at the same time the train was due to return from Swindon, and a freight train in between ... simplest solution is to cancel the 08:47 ...

Exactly, Bob .... I was slower in replying as I've been answering regular user frustration on Facebook!
