From gef

Quote
A review into the island’s railways has considered reducing or closing entirely the Laxey to Ramsey section of the Manx Electric Railway.

Engineering and transport consultants SYSTRA were contracted undertake a review of the Isle of Man’s heritage railways earlier this year.

While the report has yet to be published, an FoI from Gef has revealed that discussions have been had around cutting or severely reducing the service on the section from Laxey from Ramsey.

Might be a bit of urgency to visit I of M,

although I always wanted to visit I of M to see where Norman Wisdom spent that last years of his life.

A friend took a job in Ramsey, I'm trying to recall its timetable after it reopened in 1977 after, was it a couple of years closure, and also wondering when was the last time the Manx Electric Railway was a year-round operation.

I think I recall staying in Ramsey before the line to Laxey was reopened in June of that year, and then another visit at a later date when the service ran at public transport times - i.e. into the evenings, allowing an early evening trip south to Laxey, returning at what was either 10:30 or 11:30pm with the station lit by its own lamps, with additional illumination as a couple of trams arrived, meeting at Laxey from north and from the south and a bustle of people changing, including those who were heading back along the darkened coast to Ramsey (us included).

The last time it closed there was a marked drop-off of use on the whole MER route which was reversed by its reopening. I hope they don't make the same mistake twice.

Glad I got my bucket list trip to the Isle of Man in earlier this year. I was able to travel all the railway/tramway lines open to the public on the island. Here's the station at Ramsey and a tram awaiting departure for the journey to Laxey and Douglas.
