A lifeline evening bus has been axed because those who pay for it say not enough passengers travel on it. Only an average of three passengers a trip used Stagecoach's 46 evening services, says Gloucestershire County Council, which subsidised it to the tune of ^7 per passenger (link below.)

But passengers who rely on the service between Nailsworth, Stroud, Painswick and Cheltenham in the evenings, say the county council has got its figures wrong.

A bus route from Cheltenham to Stroud is being reintroduced after pressure from users. The 46 service was axed last month because of low passenger numbers but thanks to local opposition the service will return on Friday and Saturday nights (link below.)

Now Gloucestershire County Council, which is subsidising the service, has warned passengers to use it or lose it.

It says if demand for the service does not increase the buses will be cancelled once again. Buses will run throughout the week if demand is high.

The bus will be reintroduced after funding arrangements are finalised.
