The unique Wuppertal railway is currently suspended ...see what I did there....during the week,only running at weekends, until summer 2021. Apparently there is a problem with the overhead wheels of the newly introduced cars.

A pun is worthless if you need to point it out or explain it. For those who were not aware, the Wuppertal is the famous suspended monorail.

That is, I would agree, the common view in the UK▸ (United Kingdom).   In different cultures, I have seen many explanations of puns and other humour provided alongside the funny material in order to help the less bright or less informed appreciate the funniness.
