Jellia Jamb has arrived!  Joining Almira, Glinda, Dorothy, Toto, Nikko, Scarecrow, Tinman, Shoes, GoldFinger and SilverFox, WomanWithCat and others.

She is introduced in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), and is described as having pretty green hair and green eyes and wears a green silk dress with green satin sashes and a green apron. In the novel, she is the young and charming maid who immediately responds to the Soldier with the Green Whiskers after he blows upon his green whistle, informing the staff that guests have arrived at the royal palace in the Emerald City. She handles the separate rooms of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion during their stay and upon their first visit to the city to see the great Wizard. She leads Dorothy through seven hallways and up three grand staircases to her private chambers, and even provides the little girl with a fancy green dress made of brocaded satin. She also adorns Dorothy's pet dog Toto with a green silk ribbon she ties around his neck - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jellia_Jamb

Jellia Jamb is a MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina with silly amounts of memory and storage and a nice screen ... my next generation system . Amongst Jellia's tools are Tcl/Tk 8.5, Perl 5.18, Php 7.3, Python 2.7, C++ 4.2, Ruby 2.6, Apache 2.4 and I have added Python3 3.7, MySQL 8.0, Java 14, Lua 5.4

I now have the opportunity to bring web sites and software hosted on servers which are due (or overdue) to retire onto Jellia Jamb with current versions and in due course re-host on modern cloud, shared or dedicated systems. There is much deprecated in older versions and is now removed in (in particular) PHP 7, but the tool for that shift and testing it too is in place.

Late on Monday, I was asked to step in to do a presentation and run a break out session on Wednesday, and I spent much of Tuesday preparing that. Tuesday also brought not unexpected, but disappointing news that our November holiday is cancelled. Yesterday JelliaJamb arrived, a dress rehearsal and the event, and the dreadful accident at Stonehaven.  Such accidents and the way we handle them, and indeed all the changes over the last six months caused by the Coronavirus, hit us all in different ways even if not directly effected; for sure the effect on us (that's our team and our members) will be small compared to the survivors of 1T08, but many of us are already feeling delicate. The extreme heat (and its still not really broken) has dulled the performance of body and soul too.

Please remember this forum is provided for free.  Membership does not bring formal 24x7 support, though we do remarkably well.  So - not oft said, but I got pushed near to the brink yesterday ...

"Can you please therefore [action demanded] with immediate effect?"

"Dear All ... [4 questions] ... I was on the beach but ..."

"You need to ... 3 p.m. today"

We are set up here to respond to urgent issues and concerns as we did yesterday but,
... Please, just give some thought before pressing personal buttons marked "urgent" if they're not.
... Please ask on the forum, in frequent poster or "and also", or through notify as that gives multiple of us a chance to help
... Please don't get multiple people to do the same work in answering you on something - please think if unpaid volunteer time is plentifully there to be burnt up by several people all doing the same thing.

Today is ... something of a recovery day, and also some excitement setting up the new system (which I'm sure will have some frustrations) ... hope to see some of you, perhaps, at 19:30 - http://www.passenger.chat/23890 .  Mind, things happen even as I write / Zoom meeting just set up for 11:00 ...
