From the Basingstoke Gazette

Quote
TRAINS running through Hampshire are delayed or cancelled this evening after a landslip near Micheldever.

A number of South Western Railway services between London Waterloo and the south coast have been cancelled after the landslip, which came just after heavy showers struck the region.

Replacement bus services are operating between Basingstoke and Southampton, whilst CrossCountry services are being diverted via Salisbury.

Other services from the New Forest and Dorset are being diverted via Havant.

SWR» (South Western Railway - about) expect disruption until the end of the day.

There seem to be too many landslips around at the moment - or is it just that we notice them more ...

The logical correlation is the amount of rainfall we're having. And  with strong winds driving said rain. Driven in the right direction it can easily saturate cuttings/embankments.

Just to note a train did hit the landslip on the approach to Wallers Ash tunnel but thankfully did not derail.
