EDIT TO ADD (Automatic Dropping Device) ... Scroll down for 26th and 27th September - trains modified because of engineering works.

Full normal weekend timetable, 19.9 and 20.9.20.   First time since March, last time for at least a month!

The leaves are turning golden brown and falling from the trees, the days are drawing in, the government has ended the franchising system and is imposing additional restrictions on people ... so it's also the railway engineering season.

The Melksham Rail User Group has offered to support GWR (Great Western Railway) during bus substitutions as they occur on dates right through 2021, getting weekly information out to our community ahead of time, and having one of our team (within rules at the time) at the station on mornings that buses are running.

We will get into something of a routine format for the timetables, I'm sure ... and almost certainly has a "no news" one too to tell people when trains are running to the regular published timetable.

Buses may be slow and inconvenient when replacing trains, but they provide a vital part of the connectivity and a key way to work - which these days spreads for many people across seven days not five.  Rail replacement buses are also useful for visiting friends and relatives and attractions, and for parts of longer distance journey - not as good as having a train, but 20 times better than having nothing!

Someone comment to me the other week that passenger numbers have been growing again on Westbury to Swindon trains (can't keep them down  Wink Cheesy Grin ) and that the two car train will soon need to be 3 cars to avoid overcrowding.

Melksham services today are through trains Portsmouth Harbour to Swindon ... changing at Swindon (but with some long waits) for onward service to South Wales.   And that has Brough 5 car Turbos calling at Melksham for (to my knowledge) the first time.

While out and about - a lovely autumnal day in the town
