A jazz and blues festival, the historic Gypsy Moth IV, a tall ship and simulators and displays - not to mention a 30-strong fleet of boats - will be just some of the features of the Transat race village (link below.)

The village at Sutton Harbour, which will provide the backdrop to The Artemis Transat race, opens at 10am on Saturday, May 3.

It will be open from 10am until 6pm each day until the race start on May 11.

Organisers are hoping to attract 100,000 people to the village in the week leading up to the race start between Plymouth and Boston.

The race's impressive fleet will arrive in Plymouth during the Bank Holiday weekend on May 3 and 4.

Spectators will be able to see the boats enter through Sutton Harbour's lock gates.

Work to erect the official Transat race village on the Barbican is now well under way and on course to open to the public on Saturday (link below.)

The village will be based in an area from Customs House to the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and will feature huge marquees with massive arched entrances, a public stage, street performers and fireworks.

Some areas of the marquee will be on two floors.

Organisers of the Artemis Transat at Sutton Harbour are hoping to attract 100,000 people to the village in the week leading up to the start of the spectacular yacht race on May 11.

Julian Hocken, Artemis Transat operations director, said the village will be open to the public from Saturday as planned.

The race village will be open at 10am on Saturday. It will play host to the public from 10am to 6pm on a daily basis until May 11 when the race fleet leaves Plymouth for the epic voyage across to Boston, USA.
